The General Altimax RT43 includes patented Early Warning Visual Alignment Indicators. These identify and point out vehicle misalignment, which is meant to extend the life of the tire.
Peak Anti-Slip Design technology increases the number of biting edges for enhanced wet traction, as well as improved dry traction and ride comfort. This is in addition to four circumferential grooves, giving the tire increased grip on even snow-covered surfaces.

The Twin Cushion Silica Tread Compound features a high-density all-season compound on top, paired with a low-density foundation compound beneath. The high-density compound provides year-round traction and long wear. The low-density compound underneath absorbs road vibrations.
The symmetrical tread design keeps noise down and increases rotation options. It features a continuous center rib, which adds stability and steering response, and independent tread blocks, which use sound wave suppression technology to reduce road noise.
Twin steel belts are reinforced by two layers of spirally-wrapped polyamide. They stabilize the tread area for enhanced handling. Combined with the polyester cord body, it promotes ride quality and adds strength and durability.
The Altimax RT43 comes with a 75,000-mile limited treadwear warranty for T-rated models, and a 65,000-mile warranty for H- and V-rated models. These numbers are estimated to last about six years. In addition, General Tire offers a 45-day trial. If after 45 days you’re not satisfied, you can exchange them for a different General brand.
The Altimax RT43 Put to the Test
In performance tests, the Altimax RT43 performed very well for ride comfort, steering response, and handling. It remained composed over road imperfections, while maintaining its steering and handling. Its handling was direct and responsive, the tire minimized impacts and noise from potholes and joints. There was some noticeable tread noise, and the tire became slightly jarring over some large bumps. But overall, it provided a relatively quiet and comfortable ride.
When driven on a designated testing track, the Altimax RT43 exhibited stability in dry conditions. On the wet track, the tire came out on top for stability, speed, and handling. It showed the best wet traction out of several competitor tires that were tested. On the dry track, the tire took about 93 feet to stop from 50 miles per hour, and 119 feet on the wet track. Its wet braking was significantly better than any other tires that were tested, in some cases a full 20 feet shorter.
The Altimax RT43 was designed to excel year-round, even in light snow. Reviewers found that it doesn’t disappoint. In fact, traction was excellent even in moderate snow and on light amounts of ice. It showed predictable handling and impressive braking distances.
